text highlighting and erasing

I have noticed lately that as I am typing, the words will highlight and erase randomly. It makes it very hard and annoying to type when none of the words will stay. Do you know what the problem could be? This has never happened before to me. thanks

Are you using a laptop and incidentally tapping the trackpad with your thumbs while you type? Since Shift+click selects text between the cursor position and the location in text clicked, that's how this effect may be occurring.

If you have the option in TrackPad preferences, ensure that the trackpad is ignored while typing. And/or, turn off tap to click.

Its called fat-fingering keys. like earthsaver said its prevalent on laptops due to close proximity of the keys and the trackpad/button. Happens to me all the time.
