I have an IMPOSSIBLE problem that I for the life of me I cannot solve: For the past few days, my Powerbook G4 (1.67 GHz PowerPC G4, Mac OS X 10.4.11) has been torturing me endlessly with the finder on my desktop. The icons on my desktop either disappear or become "ghost" icons (that is, titles without the icons pictures representing them)...I've relaunched my finder at least a hundred different times and my desktop changes differently each time. Sometimes I relaunch, all the icons appear, things seem to be going fine, I go to move an item to another folder, the moment I let go of the clicker half of them vanish immediately. And yes, I've already tried deleting the "com.apple.finder.plist" files and even the "com.apple.desktop.plist" one,but no, doesn't solve anything. Same problem. I've tried every possible solution I could find on the internet: download the "Tinkertool" and "AppleJack" program, resetting my mac's PRAM and NVRAM, restarting in safe mode (though it doesn't seem to turn on when I try holding the shift key), checking to see if I have the StuffitAVR update in my System Preferences (I don't have it), repairing permissions, changing the aspect/size resolution of my screen, creating a seperate user account to see if the problem is user-specific (it appears to be so), PLUS rebooting and cleaning the cache a trillion times....and yet still, all these efforts proved ultimately futile. I even went so far as to physically remove my "Library" folder from my username profile, and after rebooting, manually moving each file to weed out any corrupted ones. I'm all out of options. Someone PLEASE help me with this one, I've been tearing out my hair trying to figure this out for the past few days, I'm on the verge of a breakdown after all the efforts I went though, someone PLEASE tell me what to do.
