The missing man pages?

Hey there,

I was just wanting to configure my 'new' (not the new model) G4 PB 12" for IPSec with racoon, when I noticed that the racoon.conf (5) man page is missing!! But its there on my iBook (both running Jag with .8 update). I can't remember installing the man page separately on the iBook ... so what gives? The main difference (software wise) between the two systems, is that on the iBook I installed Jag from a bought full copy of the OS, and on the PB12" it was pre-installed. Does anyone have any info on this??

I'd bet the factory installed image isn't a "full" install. Stick in your retail copy and see what you can get installed that it says isn't already.

I do have the racoon manpage (also in 10.2.8). If you still can't get the manpage, I could mail it to you - send me a message if you'd like it
 
I swear I remember reading an Software Update thing lately that mentioned "extra man pages"... Or maybe that was the Panther/Xcode Tools custom installer???
 
Did you set the MANPATH to /usr/share/man:/usr/X11R6/man ? It is not set by default.

I do it in ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist so it is globally available.
 
Yeah - I set my manpath. I also checked directly in the various man dirs - but its just not there :(

I have the racoon.conf.5 file in /usr/share/man/man5 - both on Panther and Jaguar 10.2.8.
 
All I have in /usr/share/man/man5 is:
Mach-O.5 ar.5 cvs.5 smb.conf.5 xinetd.conf.5
a.out.5 config.5 ranlib.5 stab.5
aliases.5 cupsd.conf.5 rcsfile.5 vgrindefs.5
Which doesn't seem to be very much ... but I won't bother fixing it right now - coz I'll be doing an install of Panther soon enough, and hopefully that'll provide me with all the man pages I need again :) ... it must just be that the 'Internation English' version that I got when buying my PB here in Germany doesn't install all the man pages. Like I said, when I installed it on my old iBook from the 10.2 full version it included all the man pages I could ever hope for :)
