well it's back up and we get a new 1Ghz iMac

now we only get a 15" with a combo drive, 800 Mhz and 60 Gigs

Apple really took a big line between "Home" (800Mhz) and "Less Home, more Prof" (1Ghz). There's a big difference between the two!
i hope my dad buys the 1Ghz

Hmm... I think it's a pity that my sources were wrong, though. An entry-level iMac at 999$ would have been good. Actually, the entry to the iMacs has been raised by a 100 USD. Yes, they have the Pro Speakers bundled, but other than that, they're a year old...

I think the lack of Firewire 800 is weird too. I wonder why they did not include it even on the $2000+ model?

I would assume two reasons:

1. helps keep the cost of the computer down (even at $2k)

2. keeps the differentation between pro vs consumer.
