Also! ... I Dunno If u have 2 activate it... or whether 10.0.0.3 Don't Support it... but some1 gave me a tip, of creating a folder, with most apps in. Then Place it in the Dock and then when clicked upon,it gave a popup menu, from the Dock...

...Now wen i Click it... it acts merely as a folder, and loads a new finder Window!

Can any1 help on this?!

I thought that SMB support was introduced in 10.1. I'm probably wrong. My advice is to upgrade to 10.1.2 :)

To get the dock submenu to appear, hold the mouse button down, or control click on the item, or use the right mouse button :)

Thanks Dude... that popup Menu thing has been Bothering me.. since i see Loadsa Posts with it on!!! :(

As for the Networking... thanks!

So where... can i look 2 get the upgrade?! How much!?
hmmm... What a B*tch! lol

Cheers anyway!

Okay: good news is - The upgrade to 10.1 should be FREE from your local dealer or Mac nerd. 10.1.2 is then available via "software update" in system prefs.
But I'm pretty sure windows networking was included back in 10.0.3, though it is now imporved.
Try using the IP address to connect. Set up a shared folder or drive on the XP machine. In finder, choose Go -> Connect to Server. Then enter:

smb://1.0.0.1/sharefoldername

That should work...

hmmm... thats what i am trying...
well i tried...

smb://1.0.0.1;MSHOME/D
smb://1.0.0.1/MSHOME
smb://1.0.0.1/D

to name a few! Nightmare!

the thing is.... if 10.1 is free... Dealer's are kinda not that common... or so it appears! i dont know of ANY Shop that even deals with Apple! what the hell can i do!?
thanks 4 ya time dude!

i've been Searchin... and Found this...

Quote from the link Below

"SMB, which stands for Server Message Block, is a protocol for sharing files, printers, serial ports, and communications abstractions such as named pipes and mail slots between Windows computers. Macintosh OS X 10.1 recognizes and supports SMB connections. You must have an account on the server."

http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/mac/osxnetworking/macosxnetwork.html#smb

Does that mean i am busted, til i get 10.1?!

A ha!
Also...

on the iBook... When u hit Sleep... am i right in thinking the machine still uses the battery?!
B'cus the white light stays on... and that kinda gives it away!
is there anyway... i can do the kinda thing, found on Windows XP (sorry 2 Contrast!)

Like Hibernate.. where the RAM is cached... and then the machine Powers off... this reduces bootup time... and is my essential goal!

Can any1 help me?!

Cool... So its like.. gonna be able 2 sit there ... 4 ages then?
hmmm... Cool

What the hell is Carracho?!

the Download... if i can Download it (i am on 56K!!!) Could i use my resumable download manager on my PC... and then Send 10.1 update 2 the iBook Thru FTP!?

NeYo

Most download clients for the mac support resumable downloads..
A sleeping computer can last like 2 weeks on almost no battery I think, I've never tried it, staying away from my computer for 2 weeks might kill me.

Carracho is client software to connect to servers with other software, similar to Hotline. It allows people to "evaluate" software :)

Hibernate is a feauture that only found on 2k/XP machines. It's a shame that Mac OS X doesn't take the advantage (Don't forget the instant on!!). But if you just put you computer into sleep mode, it is said to be staying for 2 weeks.

OS X <--> OS X networking sucks... I can tell... Even now I still cannot browse the computers in the "Go > Connect" between my iMac and iBook either on Airport or Ethernet... :(

But in my opinion, 10.1.2 is much better than 10.0.3... I think you shall decide to upgrade it NOW.

I always use SMB://xxx to connect my company's file server prefectly. Except I hate those dot-file. :o

Good luck!
