I just had to comment on my ignorance of UNIX language. This is my first time in this area of the forums and i must say even just the thread titles look like a whole new language to me.
Im so lame(as is evidenced by my wasting your time with this post).
Sorry

Don't give up! - I was completely ignorant just a month or two ago, now I am just ignorant. :)

Your post is kind of funny because just the other day I was thinking that many of the terms I see here and elsewhere are finally starting to make sense to me.

Jargon and terminology is often the biggest obstacle to learning anything new and/or breaking into a new area. I'm sure you can understand all the concepts - the problem is learning the language used to describe the concepts. Getting past that may be the hardest part. Think of yourself as a young Luke Skywalker after you have just met Obi Wan and listened to some of his rambling on the Force.

What seemed to help me the most is buying a book on Unix, and running through the exercises. There are millions of web based resources too, but I think there is something to sitting down with a book and your computer - plus you can read the book at lunch (or wherever). Learn to navigate the file system, create, copy, move files and directories, create and edit files in vi or pico, ftp, write a simple script - it will all start to come together.

Good luck.
