I bought my 550 TiBook just over a year ago and when ordering i upgraded the dvd drive to a cd-rw, the day it arrived apple announced the combo ooh i was miffed but carried on with this magnificant feat of hardware. But ANYWAY want to know if i get an external firewire dvd drive will it play dvd movies? is the hardware for decoding the films still in the pBook? or what bout upgrading the internal drive to a combo/superdrive expensive ?? worth it,compared to an ext. drive?? (& if any Irish/European people here where'd i get it done?)

plus im upgrading my ram, is the standard 256MB in slot1, soldered in or can i put it in myself?
And my trusty 10 GBiPod which i aint stopped using since christmas,whats best for shinin up that chrome? I heard brasso but would the stuff for cars not be better??

I changed from p.c's to mac just over a year and oh christ i feel better every day, i can sleep better i dont take ill any more and i noticed my hairs grown back and im only 19 :) nah seriously changin from wintel to my titanium was unbelivably fantastic but hell i obviously dont need to tell yee,ur usin them!!
 
Glad you made the switch smoothly :D

The software components for a DVD should be installed on your computer. iMovie should play the movies, so an external firewire DVD will work.

Upgrading Ram is easy. The keyboard comes up, the airport slot comes out and you insert the RAM. Of course you do that when the computer is off.

Shinning up your iPod, use a soft cloth with 409 or Fantastic sprayed on the cloth. :cool:

Just after ordering another powerbook, 15.2 in,867MHZ,256MB,40GB for my sister, thinkin off puttin my 256MB chip in hers and buyin new ram for my own, i understand they are compatible yeah? both machines being PC133 3.3V 144-pin SO-DIMM Memory ??
 
I think they are the same. I don't have the specs for the 15 inch, yet.
 
The difference is in which 867 you ordered. Did you order the 12 inch screen? Then the Ram is different. The 12 inch needs PC2100 DDR 266 144-pin SO-Dimm. The 17 inch needs PC2700 DDR 333 144 pin SO Dimm.
You originally said you ordered the 15 inch. that does use PC133 3.3v 144 pin So Dimm
