Hi
I'b be grateful for some help. Tiger 10.4.6
I can print with uSB OK ,but when I try to print via IP I get a printer busy message. Can see printer under DHCP clients in Belkin router, can set up new printer in printer setup utility with KM magicolor 2450 PPD (driver 10.4, ppd version 1.08) appearing in the setup process, but always get unable to connect, timed out, or printer busy messages. Tried all options in the dialogue, tried turnng off the Belkin router firewall, no help!
TIA

Firewall blocks outside from inside the router (WAN from LAN ports).

I don't have that printer, so you'll have to do this for me - read the manual and figure out which IP printing protocol it supports. IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) is the newest, is not found as often, and is not just "IP printing." LPD is the oldest and most common. HP Jetdirect is often called TCP/IP raw or socket printing.

Standard HP Jetdirect protocol does not need a queue name entered in Printer Setup (it uses port numbers to identify destination printer - which you don't usually need to know).

Both LPD and IPP require you to know the queue name of the printer and enter it in Printer Setup. If you don't find this queue name in the manual, you may get it by printing a config page by pressing a test button.

Good luck.

Thanks
I had the queue wrong: same IP address as the printer.
Now I just need to figure out how to make sure the printer always has the same Ip address....

You should set a fixed/static IP address in the same subnet (first three parts remain the same) but out of the DHCP range - example:
computers 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3, make the printer 192.168.1.100.

Hope this helps.
