I am new to this so please excuse the lack of knowledge. I am having trouble backing up my laptop (OS X version 10.5.8). The time machine was working fine on the WD passport 500 gb external drive i got, but it just suddenly stopped one day and I got an error message (unable to complete backup. an error occurred while copying files to the backup volume.) nothing more specific than that. I tried it several time with the same result.
I took this as an opportunity so I moved everything off another external hardrive (Seagate 500gb), reformatted it it with the disk utilities (FAT), restarted the laptop and tried again... It backed up around 20gb and then the same message. So I tried it on still another hard drive (this one Mac OS extended) and I got the same result.
I googled the problem and searched this forum but all the answers seem to be, reboot, reformat, and reconnect. This has not worked for me.
I have seen others posting their log. If that is required, can someone tell me how to do that.
