Toast 7.1.3 Roxio restore won't launch from dvd backup

Hi anyone help me with following ;
tried to restore some spanned garageband files burnt using Toast 7.1.3, the Roxio restore program put on the cd by Toast (when double clicked) makes an icon (Roxio Restore) appear briefly in the dock then vanishes without opening. Roxio told me to uninstall, verify disk permissions and reinstall all of which I've done three times to no avail.
Seen at least two other similar stories on various forums but no solution.....the suggestion I have seen is to use terminal to rejoin but it's not as simple as one type of file split into 2 or more of the same, there are unix files, aiff files and others so cant see that working and after all I bought this program specifically because of large files needing to be spread over more than 1 dvd etc!
The only program thats ever done this brief bouncing and not opening before was Firefox.

Only other advice was to find a friend with mac and try on that (easier said than done!) but I have over two years worth of work that I can't afford not to access.
I suppose there might be lots of people like me who don't test the viability of back-ups until they actually need them?
I am using 10.4.11 ppc

Have you checked the logfiles in Console.app? Can a newer version of Toast read your media?

Marcus thanks for reply - no don't know how or what to look for in console - is there a log I can easily access copy and send you?
nor have I got to the stage of wanting to spend money on a newer version in case that doesn't work either.
This Roxio Restore program must be on my computer but something is stopping it opening - if I check the contents of the program on the DVDs it has info.plist/ MacOS folder/ Pkginfo /resourses folder etc so I am hoping all info's there but problem is some clash/conflict in my system?......is this what the console log can make a note of?

Yes, Console.app is the application that shows all system logfiles. Click the icon in the upper left corner of this app to see more logfiles. Try to find anything having to do with Roxio.

Post it here. Probably someone may help or direct you you to a source for help.
