Toast creating bad disks

Backing up DVDs for personal use.

I start by using MTR (either 2.6 or 3.0) to create Video_ts files.

Then, using Toast 7 or 8, I use FIT TO DVD COMPRESSION.

Toast burns the DVD without errors, but when I try to play the disk on my Mac, (OS 10.4) the dvd chokes on various chapters, (i.e. never the same spot) and crashes. When playing the DVD on a regular DVD player, the movie becomes unviewable at the same trouble spot.

Now, taking the same Video_TS files, I make a DVD with toast on another Mac and I get a Perfect DVD.

I switched media, also.

If Toast works on another Mac, prettyplease tell us the differences
between the two: processor/speed, OS, brand and type of optical
drive, all that stuff. Did you let Toast verify the disc after burning?
What brand and X-ness discs? What burn speed?

Have you used a (dirt cheap) laser lens cleaner on your optical
drive? Might help.

The drive may be failing. What Mac do you have? You might be able
to get a good cheap sel-installable replacement drive.

Lots of maybes. More info might let us diagnose better.
