Tranfer Files....How To

Hi Folks,

I have a friend who wishes to upgrade her Mac osx from Panther to Tiger on her Emac but she has files there that she wishes to save, particularily her music files, which amounts to over 4 gigs. She also has an empty harddrive Ibook which is currently running os9. My question is: Is there any way that she can transfer the files from her Emac to her Ibook wirelessly, or does she have to hardwire the two computers together in order to transfer the files?? FYI she is connected to the internet through a wireless router although I don't know if this has any bearing on file transference. Also her current financial situation is not conducive to putting forth any expenditure at this time. Any help, advice or suggestions in response to this post would be most appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

No big woop. Restart your computer while booting from the MacOS X 10.4 CD. Running the installer will upgrade your OS and save all of your files and settings.

FWIW, you don't need a third-party app to transfer files between two Macs. Whether transferring files between MacOS X and MacOS 9 or between two MacOS X machines, I use AppleTalk or the AFP protocol. No fuss, no muss.

Conductor -- are you using the ibook just for storage of files while the update is happening? If that is all you are doing, you can just use the "Archive & Install" feature of Tiger. It will update to Tiger, but leave all other files alone. Won't hurt the music, etc. at all. Much simpler than all that transferring. Or did you WANT to have the files on the iBook too?
