Transcend USB Drive Problem

Hi;

I've switched to mac about a month ago and must say that i am very happy and satisfied with my new 27" imac.

However i've got one issue that i failed to manage. I'm using a transcend usb stick (8GB) for transferring episodes of tv shows that i like from my mac to WDTV media player. Whenever i transfer movie files (.avi or .mkv) my imac delivers the file to the usb stick and i can watch the movie without any problems.

Unfortunately deleting the file is a bit problematic. See, whenever i delete a file from the usb stick, the file disappears but no additional space opens up in the device. For instance i loaded 10 episodes yesterday, that was around 1.75GB in size. When i deleted the files, there was still 6.25GB available on the stick. The files were no longer visible but the space was still shown as being used.

I tried formatting the stick many times with imac but it did not help.

Any ideas?

You have not "deleted" any of those files; you have only "moved them to the Trash." They are then held in the Trash, still associated with their original location, until you empty it.

Thanks a lot for the answer. I learned something new today :)

I've got another thing to ask since it's a bit related to the current issue. Is there a way of deleting a file without sending it to trash in mac os ?

Sure, you can use the Terminal command rm to "remove" whatever file you indicate after the command. You can type the files full path or drag it to the Terminal window. Read the manual (man rm) for more info.
