Trouble restoring iPhoto Library from backup.

I had reformatted my hard drive and have restored most of my data... Except for iPhoto.

I thought that simply dropping in the 'iPhoto Library' folder and launching iPhoto would show all my data. But that didn't happen - actually I can't even get the main iPhoto window to come up now and the program quits after a few seconds.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to re-import the images from the iPhoto Library folder itself?

I just reformatted my computer and did all that good stuff about 3 days. All I did was copy the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder and everything came up as it originally was.

Since your iPhoto is immediatly quitting after you start it up, it sounds like it's just a program bug. Have you tried reinstalling iPhoto?

Have you fixed the problem, Tormente, or did you end up reimporting the stuff?

You might try deleting the "com.apple.iphoto.plist" file in your preferences folder.

Nah,
Turned out that a lot of my pics corrupted (actually, a lot of files on that drive! Even Windows apps I had stored there!) - not sure at what point (sometime while or after I backed everything up to DOS formatted drive) but I only blame myself. No longer will I use a DOS formatted drive for storage!

I ran Norton System Works (in OS9) and it fixed some as best it could (EOF problems tho, like the last few lines of pixels are destroyed). The good thing about it is that I found the originals on another computer. heh

Altho I can't find my Sister's Wedding pictures! ARGH!!! But someone else took pictures I can scan so no real loss. Just gonna hurt my pride since I'm the computer expert in the family! Shesh!

Learned quiet a few lessons in the past month, just thank god that none of them came with a heavy price!

Sorry you lost your pictures! I'm not sure I can help you, but I had a similar experience with iPhoto crashing right at start up. This problem and the same with mail, printing issues... all caused me to just give up and I ended up installing OSX on a different drive. I did what the macko did (by pure accident) and all my pics came popped up as if by magic after I reinstalled iPhoto.
