Trying to use a Canon md101 minidv camcorder with my mac

Evening, I just searched the forum but with no luck...

I have the above camera with footage on it. I want to get the footage off the device and onto my computer. Then into imovie to edit it.

I have a firewire cable but when I insert this and press play on the camera nothing happens?
-Do I need a specific driver, as I cannot find one online?

Any help appreciated!

Mac osx 10.4.11
Its an 06/7 G5 mac if that makes a difference?

But unfortunately imovies is saying 'no camera attached'
-Maybe its the firewire cable, I hope it is not the ports?
