Turning off the Desktop & Still having a dtop background

Okay, I turned off my desktop via Tinkertool... it's really great-- I prefer having it this way.

The problem is that I now don't have a desktop background with the desktop turned off-- it's the same solid light blue colored background you see when OS X boots up...

Anybody know of a way to have my desktop turned OFF and still have a desktop picture?

I do know that SNAX can produce a desktop picture just like I want it, but I don't use SNAX and don't want to have it running all the time just for this purpose.

...anybody have any ideas?

I'm not sure EXACTLY what you're trying to achieve, but you could do this:

Open Finder Preferences.
Uncheck the three "Show these items on the desktop" boxes.
Don't put files or folders on the desktop.

That way, there should be nothing there but the background.

Yes, I know this. The problem is that I want to use my desktop folder-- I just don't want to see it on the Desktop. I still have it set as my download location, etc.

So I like how I can turn off the Desktop with TinkerTool-- and I'm going to keep it up. I just hate to give up my desktop background.

Maybe you could stick a symbolic link there or something?

I can't quite see why you would want to use a desktop folder other than to havbe things turn up on the desktop. Wouldn't your home folder be better?

Just don't put stuff on your desktop. In your home folder create a new folder called "Downloads" and map all your apps that download stuff to this new folder. I honestly don't see the point of turning off the desktop though, it's a nice place to drag text clippings and stuff off web sites...
