Ubuntu Linux: New distro for PPC

There's a news posting about Ubuntu here: http://www.osnews.com with links to other materials.

Have you ever tried installing a vanilla Debian on PPC?

I tried installing Debian on a Wallstreet II PowerBook G3, and it didn't have a kernel image for the installation (I'm used to the way YDL has an installation kernel available for OldWorld Macs to boot from through Mac OS). I would try the latest development version of MDK 10.1a, but my wife loves having Internet Exploiter for her virtual schoolwork. Well, at least I've got her using a Mac! ::ha::

Maybe I should give it another shot on the Quadra... ;)

Nope. I've never quite liked stock Debian because I've felt that they were too conservative with their packages. But hey, that's just my opinion and if you disagree, well then you disagree :)

15,000+ packages is conserative?

In versions, which tend to lag behind a bit. Even in unstable, especially on the PPC side of things.
