Unable to start OSX

Hi!

The problem I have is that when i turn on my G4 powerbook it pauses at a grey screen and doesnt change.
I have used my disks to get into the disk utility but when it starts to reapl it stops and and tells me. ERROR: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-19972).
1 volume could not be repaired.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Its a nightmare because my university work is on it.

Try DiskWarrior. If that can't repair the problem, then you'll need to reformat.

Before you resort to a third-party utility, you should try booting into single-user mode.
