Arghhhhh!

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

I have a macbook, running tiger intel 10.4.7

I try to copy folders to back them up and they say that there exists mno.gif files. i have deleted them (didn't need them), but I still cannot copy the folder to a backup drive.

I have tried batchmod, onxx, super get info, and am a little confused about the terminal. Either way, nothing is working. What is even stranger, is that the files don't show that they are locked in the info, and sometimes, they do not even exist!

I'm very perplexed over this one and to be honest, I'd like to have everything unlocked, unless I choose to lock it!

Hopefully, someone here can help.

Thanks...

What are the permissions of the files? What are the permissions on the directory you're moving them to?

To get the permissions, just open terminal, type ls -alF add a space and then drag the folder that contains the files into terminal. It should add the path for you. Just hit return and it'll list your file permissions for each file in the directory.

Also, have you run disk utility and verified the disk is okay? I recently had a file that I could not delete and there were some problems with the FS.

Yeah, that does work for listing the files, but the crazy part is that it does not show this file. Strange though, the file was showing up even though it was deleted, but now it's not. I have no clue what happened?

But I thank you for your response.

So it shows up while copying? Could it be that it's part of a package, that in the Finder looks like a file or application but is actually a folder containing more files? OS X applications are only _shown_ as single files, but they can contain many files - one of those could be locked...? What is it that you're trying to copy? What are "mno.gif" files?

mno.gif files are files associated via dreamweaver/fireworks. They are pains in the arse, is what they are, apart of the 'notes' created by dw that I've recently turned off.

I think you may be right about the folder contents, but that does not apply to document folders, right? Just application ones, etc. and what I'd really like to know is how to unlock all files in a folder, and also set permissions. Oh and it does show up in the copy command because it occurs when I'm trying to back up some of my websites/files.

also, I deleted a program I tried (File Buddy), but it is still showing up when I right click on files, any ideas how to remove it/remove contents of files or apps for good.

As always, your help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mac rules....

I had a problem with permissions and I solved it with "FileXaminer". Dunno where I got it from but Google should know. ;)
