Maybe it isn't something wich has been broadcasted on TV in the USA but it surly is something worth mentioning: As of may 1st 2004 i would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new countries who are becomming as of 00:00 am saturday may 1st Berlin-time= 17:00/18:00 pm NY-time part of the European Union
Wich then will be the largest Union of countries in the world with 455 million citizens.

So congratulations and welcome to the a bigger and greater United nations of Europe&NATO:

- Hungary
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Malta

The only sad note to this is Cyprus.Which side rejected becoming part of the Union again?I think it's the Greek side of the island,correct me if I'm wrong.Otherwise it's a good idea to see people happy,realising the benefits of working together instead of the politics of division.

HERE what was linked aobut the new xountries to La Repubblica. Of couirse it is more important to know the names of the Miss thatcountry, the biggest soccer team, a typical plate ... well, a typical plate whereas of course the Italians would love to read their typica l plate is always the pasta with carbonara, or the spanish's a plate of paella with jamon and melon, or "all" the germans favorite to be bratwurst with sauerkraut and a huge pretzel ... hm. Greek part of Cyprus is now European. The vote in Cyprus was about a re-unification that didn't happen because the Greek part didn't accept the re-unification conditions. Would Cyprus have been re-unified, it would have been completely part of Europe.
