Update sites - which is best?

ok, i obsessively check www.versiontracker.com and www.macupdate.com to get the latest and greatest software for osx. On the whole versiontracker seems much better and gets more things first. But in the last couple of days macupdate has been much more active. I was wondering what the rest of you think about where to go to get new and updated apps.

i also know there are others, so please post a link to any others you regularly use as well.

i think the one thing i really like about versiontraker is the easy division of osx and classic apps.

I use versiontracker exclusively. I never use macupdate though, I don't know why...I never even bothered to post Dockprefs there :p

VT all the way here too. I never use macupdate, VT covers all my downloading needs. I wish they would get a Linux section though. That would gather ALL my needs for ALL OSs

but kent, there are people who only post to macupdate as well. and apple almost always lets them know about their updates before they tell versiontracker.

and what about the others like zdnet, twocows (sp?), etc?

anybody else?

surely there is more to be said on this subject. so many of us are software junkies.

where do you get your fix?:D

I tend to use macupdate more because it loads about twice as fast on my machines. I check macupdate everyday (sometimes more than once a day) and versiontracker about once a week.

I'll visit tucows, macorchard, and other various places if I hear about a piece of software and can't find at macupdate or versiontracker.

I'll use zdnet and cnet as last resorts. Their websites are so bloated I hate dealing with them. (Just about as bad at tucows also, in my opinion.)

Thanks Trip!!

that is an excellent compliation of sources. there are some on your list i have never heard of. i expect to check them out soon. so if you are checking them all out regularly, do you already have some opinions about which ones help the most/least or offer any sort of specialties the others don't?

i am still looking for others opinions on this, even if it is just to say that checking for software is stupid.

(of course i won't give a reply to those people when they post a "is there software that will...?" thread?:p
