I have a white iMac G3. It was running fine. The printer died then I had to update to mac os x 10.3.9 from os 10.2. I also tried downloading a newer version of safari, I think it is safari1.3.2 and and firefox 2.0.0.20. Now it is very very slow and crashes all the time. The computer often freezes using the internet and asks if I want to send a report to Apple. The email (thru comcast) was always fine, now it is very slow and freezes. The iphoto is very, very, very slow. Please help.
Was I supposed to uninstall anything before updating to mac os x 10.3.9 or trying to update safari and firefox.

On the left column it says
38.2 GB ST340810A
Macintosh HD
Firefox 2.0.0.20.dmg
Firefox icon
In the center of the screen it says, "Select a Disk, Volume or image"

How much empty space of that 38 GB do you have?
You need at least 5 GB free space, as a minimum.
How much RAM do you have?

We do know its a G3 you were trying to upgrade to 10.3.9, but we don't know processor speed, amount of RAM, or free HD space? We literally don't have much to go on to help you.

256 MB RAM is the bare minimum for 10.3. That's exactly why it's slow. The only way it could be slower was if you had 10.0 or 10.1 or 10.2 with 128 MB and you tried to actually use multiple applications on the same time.
As the iMac seems to be this one, max out RAM. 1 GB.

If all else fails, back everything up and do a clean installation of 10.3.9 (or an earlier version and instantly update to 10.3.9), install applications and see how it goes before bringing back stuff from the backup.

That said: With 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM, the machine should hum along just fine.
