Hi all!

I have an old powerbook 5300. its running 7.5.5 and I want to get it up to 8.6, which I have. The problem is that that model does not have a cd drive. I don't have floppies! :D so what I'd like to do is do the update via Apple talk connected to my Powerbook G4. Is it possible to do an update in this manner? Ideally I'd like to do a clean install, any thought on that?

Thanks for the help

I updated my 5300 through SCSI disk mode (the adapters are cheap on eBay); I don't know about just through AppleTalk....

Boy, you have a 5300 that isn't dead yet? That's pretty impressive - my mom had one, and the thing was cursed - she got it just after they'd all been recalled by Apple, but she absolutely needed a laptop to take to France, so it was that or nothing. Whot a nightmare...

I've got one, too (the bf's daughter plays with it). It runs 9.1, even. And when I actually used it, it was wireless with an orinoco gold and mozilla 1.2. Worked great....if a little slow.

You can use AppleTalk to actually copy the installer onto the internal harddrive. I'd clean install from there.
