Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5 and beyond

Okay, I'm sufficiently confused. I have Snow Leopard that I purchased as an "upgrade." But I have 10.4.11 on the MacBook. (Intel system). How do I get from 10.4.11 to 10.6X. Do I need to purchase 10.5 and do the updates? Can I use 10.5.7 that is on the MacBookPro DVD to get to this Snow Leopard? And, to upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5 is it really $150? Or, 10.4.11 to 10.6 @$150?

PS I've just spent about an hour online, from MacMall to Apple, and I can't even find a copy of 10.5 to buy! (LOL)

The Snow Leopard upgrade disc will boot and upgrade your Tiger system, this is undocumented but widely known.
