upgrading my imac

I recently purchased an Imac from ebay with os10.2.8. I have a printer that is only compatible with os10.3 or higher. I have the install disks for 10.3.5 from my ibook. When I put the 10.3.5 install disk in the imac running 10.2.8 the cd just get kicks back out. I know that my cd drive works.
1) can I install 10.3.5 on the imac?
2)why does the install disk get kicked out?

Yes, well I assume since all you give us to go by is the machine is an iMac, but just about every iMac can be upgraded enough to run 10.3.

2)why does the install disk get kicked out?

Because you are using an OEM set of installers specifically for an ibook.

In other words, you need a black retail install disc to install Mac OS X of any version. Which model iMac is this?
