USB Ethernet Adapter Problem

I recently bought one of these adapters specially formatted for Macs and I encountered some problems. I installed the correct drivers and repaired permissions, but i cant connect to the internet and when I check network status it says that the adapter is active but using a self assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Iv tried renewing my DHCP lease only to come up with another 169 ip address. There is a subnet mask number but no router number. However, I know the router is good because I have other computers using it in the house (without the adapter) with no problems. I also just installed the MAC OS X 10.4.11 intel update combo and still no luck. Any Suggestions? Do i need to reinstall OS X or will it just not work? Thanks Alot
