USB/MP3 player not appearing until restart

I have a 1GB MP3 player that I connect via USB to my Macbookpro. It does not appear as a volume on the desktop or in Finder. If I open the system profiler it recognises it just fine.

If I restart my machine the device appeears as it should on the DT and in Finder.

Can I do anything to fix this problem? It's really annoying.

Many thanks for any help

It appears that you may need to apply a firmware update to the device. The latest version is 1.65. It also seems that you have to perform the firmware upgrade from a Windows computer. Once the firmware is applied, you should be able to mount it normally on a Mac.

If you have Boot Camp and used it to install Windows XP SP2 on a partition on your MacBook, then you could do it from the Windows partition. If not, then you'll need a Windows computer to do the upgrade.

Hey thanks Nix! I have a PC that I can use later this week to do this.
I'll report back with the outcome.

Cheers

Mike

I have the same problem. I have a Rio Karma and it does show up on the system profiler but not on the desktop. I had it the Rio
update done on a pc but it still does not show up unlike my other Windows Rio model CE

Any ideas?
