Use an http mail account like hotmail on Mail

Is it possible to use an http mail account like hotmail/msn as my default email address on Mail? It would be really nice to use my mario_747@msn.com email address in mail. So that I can send messages and receive them on mail for that email address.
I hope that makes sense :p

PS. If this isn't possible, how can I get a free account for mail? (not .mac)
 
I tried that after resetting Mail, and when I got to account type "httpmail" doesn't appear.
(and I don't have Hotmail Plus) only the free one.
 
Did you follow the directions in the readme exactly?

Yahoo! and Gmail both work via POP - I use Gmail with Mail.
 
hotmail has restrictions that prevent it being used through Mail programs. only the top premium service allows POP access ($45+/month, the robbing bastards)
 
yep, I followed the ReadMe, and it actually says that newer Hotmail accounts will need to be upgrade to Hotmail Plus... And it also crashes mail frequently, so I guess I'll just stick with Safari for my web based email...
 
Check out FreePOPS which allows you to POP from a free Hotmail account (and many others). There seems to be a problem with some Hotmail accounts over the last few days, but the project is active and fixes seem to come down the pipe pretty quickly.
 
i use the http plugin with my hotmail, and am able to get my mail. there are times that mail loses connection, but so does msn messenger. of course, i'm had a hotmail account for almost a decade now, so i've been grandfathered in to all this new plus stuff.
 
Gmail's got my vote as well. Been using it for years now (June 2004) and it's been on top of things basically all that time. Its web-interface has always been best. In some ways, it's better than an actual E-Mail client, but it also allowing POP-access: Great.
