Use Interference Robustness?

On my PowerBook with Airport Extreme there is the option "Use Interference Robustness." What does that do and will it effect the signal strength? I also noticed that I have that option on my Airport base station (white, not extreme). What will that do on the base station?

I can't tell you how it works, but it should effectively (though not literally) increase your signal strength, at the cost of some speed.
 
Sounds like it just broadcasts everything more. That would slow down what it sends but make sure more gets there. Or it scans more thuroughly at the computer end.
