user.name possible ?

PINE works really fine with OS X, but I've got this problem:

OS X doesn't allow me to use dot when creating usernames (i.e. john.doe), so that PINE takes as the username the short name, which is incorrect. Is there a way for using user.name style username or to tell PINE about an alias ?

You might be able to override the usual limits on usernames using NetInfo Manager to change the username and renaming the home directory from the Terminal.

If you simply mean that pine is using your username as the return address, I'm pretty sure you can set that inside of Pine. This sounds like a Pine based issue, not an OS X based issue. I'd look into Pine, it's all sorts of configurable. Unless you know more about Pine than I do. I used to love it before webmail became so reasonable.
