Username alias

Back in the old days <= 2005, my Mac user name was my last name - call it "fudd". In 2006 I got my first Intel Mac. For no really good reason that I can remember, I set my user name to my first name - call it "elmer". The new system is now running 10.7.2.

I still have that old Mac, a G4 laptop running 10.5.8, and now I would really like to be able to connect to it using "elmer" and arrive in the account "fudd". Is there a way to make an alias?

Same question in reverse. From the laptop can I connect as "fudd" and land in "elmer" on the iMac?

The answer is here. It works in both directions between 10.7.2 and 10.5.8.
