Using a Canon printer/copier through an office network

I have tried everything I can think of, but I cannot get my computer to connect to the printer in my office. It is a Canon Imagerunner C2550 Printer/Copier/Scanner.

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and trying to connect through a wired LAN network. Other PCs connected connect with the printer just fine, but I cannot seem to do so. I have connected to the network, and when I check the ethernet connection in System Preferences, it shows that I am connected and operational. I have then tried to Add A New Printer several times, to no avail.

I typed in the IP address as requested, and it auto-searched. It always comes up "Print Using: Generic PostScript Printer." I have tried switching between LPD and IPP protocols as well. I have also tried to "Select Printer Software" from the drop down menu, and select "Canon iRC2380/2550 UFR II (US)" from the list. When I click "Add," I get this message:

"You may not be able to print to “Canon iR C2380/2550 UFR II (US).” Please reinstall the printer’s software.

So, I downloaded the appropriate driver from Canon's website. When I try to install it, however, it is telling me that a:

Canon UFR II printer driver cannot be installed on this disk. A newer version of this software already exists on this disk.

"This disk" being my Mac HD. I've looked under the Library and deleted the Canon folder, all of the Canon .PPD files, etc. and it STILL gives me the above message and will not allow me to install the necessary hardware.

I'm going nuts here. I graciously welcome any input - this thing is going to drive me to drink.
