Using a Domain Name for a Gaming Dedicated Server.

I have a gaming clan (Group) that we usually play a lot og Neverwinter nights. I have a Dedicated server running on my OS X machine. Problem is on occasion my Cable provide will change my IP from time to time. This does not happen all too often but ideally what I would like to do is setup my domain name to point to gaming server. So a player, rather than typing an IP that is all numercial that type in nvn.domainname.com

I use http://www.zoneedit.com/ for my other domain, so I figured I could do something similar for this but no dice. What can I do to be able to have an actual domain and/or Sub domain point to an IP that I want it to go to. Any help would be fantastic.

Hmm thats an interesting question i was thinking whether you can do it but like if you dont have a static IP how the hell could the domain name that is getting pointed to the server know what address the server is ???

Well with zoneedit you update the ip whenever it changes on their website. but this hasn't worked.

hiya,
h**p://www.no-ip.com/ will allow you to do this. I believe it will update your noi-ip dns as your ip changes.

Hope this helps!

http://www.dyndns.org/ does also. I've used them for quite a while with excellent results. They have links to programs you can run that'll ensure your IP stays up to date. We actually have that capability built-into our Router, so we just let that handle it. They do allow you to use you own domain name, though it's a fee-based service if you go that route. They provide service to one of their domains (40+ domains) for free though.
