Using disk copy to backup dvd

Since backing up the OSX 10.1.2 install disk that came with my iMac worked out well, isn't it possible to backup a DVD (movie) the same way? I haven's tried it yet, since making as .img file of a DVD takes soooo long.

You cannot backup/copy a commercial DVD Movie. Apple would be sued by the studios if the software that came with the computer would allow this.

here is a list of commercial DVDs that do not use CSS encryption. if you want to back up a DVD that is on this list, it should be possible:
