Using Mail on a wireless network

I'm sure that there's something simple that I'm doing wrong but I've been stuck all day on this.

I've just bought a new Powerbook Pro. I took it straight out of the box, loaded my data from our old Mac and went away for a week. While I was staying in a hotel, it happily downloaded my mail, but wouldn't send anything.

I'm home now and have set up an Airport Extreme base station connecting via ethernet to our existing ADSL modem. It's now refusing to pick up or send any mail. The internet/airport connection from the Powerbook is also quite unstable and using the diagnostic prog usually results in having to restart the main computer.

I've been going round in circles on this. Is there anyone out there who knows what I might be doing wrong?

Cheers,

DJ

Not being able to send from a hotel is pretty common, actually. Marriott, for one, blocks outbound port 25 traffic. But for Mail - change your outbound port to 587, include your name and password and that should do it.

Since you were out of your 'home' network for a bit, you might have to re-establish connectivity with your router. You can do this via the airport pulldown near the upper right hand corner. It kinda looks like a stack of 1/2 circles. Click on it, make sure you are connecting to the right airport/wireless router etc..
