Using USB webcam with OS X?

So last month I bought my first apple product, a G4 iBook. I've been slowly getting used to all the new shortcuts and programs that I've been learning, and I'm really starting to love this baby :)

So here's my problem. My girlfriend is in Texas visiting her family for 3 weeks, so I thought it would be cool for me to get a webcam for when we're talking online. After seeing the huge cost of an iSight, I opted to go for a small, inexpensive USB webcam from good ol' ebay.... which doesn't seem to work. I plug it into my USB port, and the computer doesn't even recognize that I've plugged anything in. I know that both of my USB ports work (use them for my iPod all the time), so is there any likely way for me to get this thing to work? Or do I just chalk this one up to a learning experience?

I don't have a brand name or anything on this webcam, so I can't even look up support from the manufacturer. The cam I have is here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140188076981&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=004

I appreciate any help you can all give me!

You might want to check out this website to see if it can solve your driver problem. Macam

I had the same idea as you did and my girlfriend has the iBook G4. Let me know if this works out for you.

Yeah, I've downloaded macam, with no luck. It doesn't even recognize that the webcam is plugged in. A major issue is that I don't have a make or model for the cam, either. Hopefully the seller will get back to me.
