View NEW Threads?

Ok. Its entirely possible i'll be called "an ungrateful whiner" for this, but whoopy.
This site used to work. It worked well. The owner/admin decided to upgrade to the latest forum software. ok. his choice. so why now, with this "new and improved" version, do i get the SAME DAMN THREADS every time i click on the stupid "I'm a sideways VB icon, but i actually mean new threads" button?

I come look at threads. I maybe post a reply or two. I come back later. Funny that. It shows me the same threads i viewed before, including the ones i posted in, even the ones I posted in, and am still the last person to post. (Which proves i've read the last post. i wrote it.)

Why oh why do people decide to upgrade things, when it so obviously breaks so much?

People don't just say "if it ain't broke don't fix it" for fun. Its GOOD ADVICE.

I think / hope the timeout of the newness of the threads is adjustable. Before, when the beta was really new, the new theads disappered faster. I think the time value should be somewhere in between now and then. Or how did you like the new new way of it (really fast non-new threads)? :)

I like that it does NOT forget so quickly.

I tend to come here less often than I used to so there are sometimes 3-5 pages of new postings.

The way it was before, if I took a 5 minute break after only reading 1 page and came back it would think this is a new session and only show the threads from the last 5 minutes....thus I'd never get to see what the other 5 pages had.

As a workaround, I've tried doing searches for all theads within a given date range, but that too seems to be having problems with the new software....

Please don't skew it too close to what it was before. I like it how it is now.

:)

I just remember to hit the mark all forums read when I leave, because then I never have to read duplicate posts. It's the third special button, right next to the new threads button.

when you want to use the 'mark read' function, that's the middle button of those where you see new threads. that works fine. :)

Why can't it work out when i've read it? i mean. if i've been there, assume i've read it. it isnt that hard.

Exactly. That was really annoying for me. Now, I can watch an hourlong TV program and come back to the same new threads.

There's a great website for discussions like this: www.vbulletin.com

Remember, Scott had no idea what the new features of vB 3 were when he made the switch. Besides, I think this new version has enough cool stuff (quick reply quotation buttons: holla!) that a few annoying PHP issues under the surface are liveable.
