Viewing hidden files in 9 an X

I don't have X installed at home, so I can't test this, but:

First off, OS X has lots of files and folders it hides from the user in the Finder:
bin
dev
vol
etc
usr
blah blah blah

If booted in OS 9, and i use a program like ReEdit to change the "invisible" Finder flag for, say, the "bin" directory, will that directory show up in the OS X finder?

I know OS 9 has to read an "invisible" Finder flag to force a file to not show up in the Finder. I guess my question is, does OS X follow this OS 9 convention of reading a Finder flag for a directory like "bin", or does it look in .hidden or something like that to determine which files and directories are visible in the Finder?

I'd like to force 9 to show all files on my X partition at work, but still want them invisible in X.

Any thougths?

That's the problem, I can't test it yet. I can't screw with my work machine unless I'm sure it won't destroy my system. I'm just wondering if anybody else has tested this before.

Yes, I will test it as I can purchase my new iBook.

Anybody else tested this?
