What exactly can Virtual PC do? I know it runs a opperationg system as a window on mac OS X, but what can it use? For instance if i had a windows game i wanted to play, could the Virtual PC Version of windows use my power books video card??

I just starting using VPC6. Since our company is moving to OS X from Win95/98, it allowed us to have backwards compatibility with older applications (in case we need to go through archived files). As for games, they don't suggest using it for games b/c it isn't fast enough. It won't use your video card to the full potential. It works fine for everything else especially if you have L3 cache and plenty of RAM. What's promising is RealPC's emulator; it's supposed to take full advantage of the actual video card, etc. But that's not coming out until July I think.

And don't forget that Micro$oft acquired VirtualPC. Some say they have the resources to really speed up VPC; others predict that they will kill the product.

Very interesting...so tell me, let's say I was looking to get this for Kazaa and other Windows only programes. Would you suggest I wait for this RealPC or just go ahead and get this?

Virtual PC is really interesting. As fuzz said, it doesn't support 3d graphics acceleration, so forget about 3d games.

Supposedly, it's pretty decent on a Mac with lots of L3 cache. On my 17" 800 mHz flat panel iMac w/o L3, it's barely useable. I wonder what it will be like when I expand my memory from 256 to 768.

I bought it mostly because I'm fascinated by emulators, not to get any real work done. That said, it's an amazing emulator.

Well i've been tryin out Virtual PC, and it does seem like its lacking, even tho it is a great emulator. So im quite looking forward to RealPC, can anyone hook me up with a link to their site? So i can keep an eye on the project?

VirtualPC works fine with java-progs and many messangers. I use VPC 6 for videochatting with other windowsusers. It mounts my usb-webcam easily and everything works just fine. As for the graphiccard... you can just allocate graphicmem for VPC, but not taking any advantage of the gpu. Anyway, it works fine. Even for many Office programms. Powerpoint works just fine. I had a lot of conversion problems between Office XP and Office vs. X for mac, so I used VPC and Office XP...
