Virtual PC for Mac vs. 7 - install of PC software

Hi,

I'm using a G5, OSX 10.3.8, with Virtual PC for Mac vs.7, and Windows XP Pro. This Virtual PC is new, I've never used it before. Also, I've never used a PC before. :D But now I have to, in order to run this Bible Codes program that I bought which isn't made for a Mac :( I have enough memory in the G5. :D

I've tried all the logical solutions but I still haven't been able to install the Bible Codes PC software. Their tech support just tells me things that don't look like anything I see on my screen. I can and may return it, but I don't want to. I want it to work. I guess all they know about is PC installations with their software.

The Bible Codes disk mounts on my desktop. When Virtual PC opens the Bible Code CD it doesn't appear in the Virtual PC 7 toolbar. If I go to Drives and do a Capture Disc, it brings up a window for me to select the software but most of it is greyed and can't be selected. The folders for fonts can be selected, but I need the install software to be selectable - and it isn't.

The Bible Codes people say that their program works with Virtual PC. I can't get it to install. Since this is my first time, maybe I don't know how.
I think Virtual PC is working fine from all I can tell.

Could I have a virus or something unusual happening getting in my way?
If the Bible Codes software is already installed will it appear greyed and not selectable?
Should I try to find some other PC software and see if it installs?
What are my options other than returning the software or using it as a frisbee?

Any help you may offer is greatly appreciated! TIA

Not to be a zealous purist, but for me, I run PC software on a PC and Mac software on my Mac. Having said that, I run a VirtPC/7 installation with the MS .NET development environment. I've had a few problems since I got the vpc running, however getting it running initially was a chore. It has intermittent network issues and it sees the CD drive when it feels like it. It used to see any and all USB devices just fine; now it won't see any. It performs fine as long as I like playing in a sandbox.

My current home/office network is as follows:

PC desktop workstation (dual boot Win2k pro/Fedora III)
PC Server in basement (fedora III)
PC Server in basement (Win2k server)
iBook 1.33ghz

In the last few weeks I've decided to change my config. It will end up:

Mac Mini desktop workstation
iBook
PC Server will be terminal server and all my PC stuff will happen there.
PC Server running Fedora III for all else.

I've had enough headaches with virtual machines and hosted device issues. Bah! BAH, I say! BAH!!

Well, sequence is important. I'd insert the CD after XP has fired up.
Then go to My Computer and see if it's there. If not, capture it.
Then look into the CD and find something to double-click that
looks like an installer.

I also suggest going to Books-R-Us or wherever and buying a "Missing
Manual" for XP.

And don't let the purists get you down.

Hi,

IF I had a PC I'd have no need to buy Virtual PC for my Mac.

I'll have to give it another try while considering the sequence. Thanks so much!

I welcome any additional tips.
