virtual switch vs network sharing in Virtual PC

I know the functional differences between virtual switch and network sharing in VPC 5, but is there a disadvantage to virtual switch that one should be aware of? It seems like virtual switch allows everything network sharing provides, and more, but I thought that sounds too good to be true. By the way, I am using VPC 5.02 on OS X 10.1.4
