I have Virtual PC for MacOS X running Debian Linux. I have been trying to get X Windows to run inside Debian, but every time I try to load it with startx, i get errors. I think they may be video driver related? The primary error is AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0. Anyone able to help

This from the Connectix site, regarding installing RedHat Linux under VPC 5.

36. Select S3 Trio64 (generic) for X Configuration. The default memory should be 4MB. Click Next.

So, I'd assume this is the video hardware that VPC5 emulates, and you will need to set this in Xf86config.

Using xf86config is a pretty daunting thing, even for command line jockeys. Take your time and read the prompts carefully.

BTW, here are the suggested settings for monitor refresh from the aforementioned page:

41. Select Unprobed Monitor with a horizontal sync of 31.5-48.5kHz and a vertical sync of 50-70Hz. Other values and monitors may work, however these are untested and make the screen output unreadable or cause damage to the monitor (use other values at your own risk.) Click Next.
42. Select a screen resolution, "High Color (16 bit)", "1024x768", KDE desktop, and Graphical login type were used for this installation

You might find a bit more relevant information within the forums at Connectix.
