VLC 0.5.0 doesn't work anymore!

Hi, I download VLC 0.5.0 about 2 weeks ago, and had played 3 .avi's perfectly. When all of the sudden, I wanted to play my 4th, and it made a screeching sound when the movie played. Now, even the .avi's that worked before, screech when they play. I also tried deleting VLC and downloading it again, but this hasn't worked.

Could someone please help me? Because I really need this app!:(
 
Just delete VLC's preferences! They're in
/private/var/root/library/Preferences/VLC/

or /library
