Volume gets pretty crazy when I plug in my headphones.

boi

official breaker of macs.
here's what happens:
i plug in my headphones, then i go to system preferences to set the sound to system sound (from the soundsticks/isub). when i do this, two things happen. one, the "Output volume" underneath that maxes out. Then the system volume icon on the menu bar goes all the way to the bottom. when i turn that volume up, it gets really really really loud.
basically, the output volume indicator in the 'sound' preference gets out of sync with the one in the menu bar. it starts doing crazy stuff after that. if i put the volume in the preference all the way soft and then i hit 'volume up' on the keyboard, that volume maxes out and the volume in the menu bar goes up a little. there's a bunch of other confusing bizarre things like that going on with it, too.
does anyone know if there's any fix for this?

does anyone even understand what i'm talking about? ^_^
