VueScan/Scanner/OSX Question

I have an astra 3400, VueScan 8.0.4 and am running 10.3.4. when i scan, it puts varying vertical contrasts lines throughout the entire image. i know its not the scanner cause i can use it on windows machine fine (and i even tried using TWAIN through Photoshop, it didn't have the contrast lines, but i didn't like doing it that way).

any ideas on what i can do to fix this so i don't have to run between computers to scan?

I wish i could even get that far with vuescan 8 and my astra 2200 on panther. It keeps giving me kernel panics!
 
actually, the new version was just released and that one doesnt do it. i guess it was something with the one i had. odd.

thanks for the help anyway.
