W350 Sony Ericson ATT phone will not appear as a USB on Macbook Pro

I've just gotten a new Sony Ericsson w350, and everything is working fine, except that I see that it connects to Internet Explorer to transfer music.

Upon looking this up, it says it should still work to transfer music using a drag and drop and appearing as a USB on my mac. It is not doing this, and I'm unsure why. Any suggestions?

I experienced the same problem with the USB cable to the W350.
After selecting File Transfer Mode, no volumes showed up on the desktop
(despite an email from Sony Ericsson saying this should work).

However, using BlueTooth File Exchange worked; I was able to copy all my photos from the W350 to my iMac running 10.5.7.
