Wake up, Mac!

My new Mac G5 does have one very, very irritating characteristic: it falls asleep on me even while running some procedure. I understand if I've left the machine alone for a few hours, and hit a key, and it has to wake up, but, here I am (at the moment) scanning in some slides - I mean, it's running for heaven's sake, it's doing something, and ... zzzzz ... the little colored spinning circle comes on the screen and I have to wait until it's finished yawning, and ready for action (which is slow in coming). I thought this was a hot machine, I've got 1.5 gb of RAM installed, why is it so "sleepy?"

Have you checked the settings in Energy Saver and made sure that it's set to Never go to sleep?
