Webcams and osx

All your base are belong
Hi all,

Does anyone have any ideas on webcams for mac.

I have a quickcam express USB but that does not support mac, but I would be keen to get one.

Is there any good Video Conferencing programs on apple, preferably one that would be compatible with other programs if the other party was using linux or the like.

You are so out of luck. As far as I know (and I've done a lot of looking into this very thing) there really aren't any USB webcams that work with X. No one's releasing software/drivers for them, at least not yet anyways. FireWire webcams however, work perfectly.

As for your video conferencing software, you're again somewhat out of luck. I know that there is nothing that will allow us to connect with Windows users. I doubt there's anything for linux, but I suppose someone could port an X app fairly easily. Your best best is searching www.versiontracker.com for 'webcam' or something. But as far as I know, there's diddly.

Yeah I was afraid that might be the case, its just annoying that apple have over looked web cams. Most people have fast internet now days (dsl & cable) so why should they not be able to Video Conference.

I shall have a look around version tracker and might go down to my local apple store and see what they have in the camera dept.
