Weird Proteus problem...

I noticed a little problem after upgrading to Panther.

You know that little number that will appear in the top right corner of the dock icon when you have a new, unread message? Mine will tend to get stuck at "1" most of the time, which doesn't really help me know if I have a new message or not. I have deleted the program as well as my plist file from the Library. Is there anything else that Proteus may have put on my system that I can get rid of?

I just want to fix this problem, because I love Proteus, and don't want to have to use another IM client instead.
 
Well I have 3.05, but I'm not sure of the date. I'm going to reinstall it anyways later this evening when I get a chance.
 
Yeah, I have the Fire Icon sitting in the dock right beside the Proteus icon. I am slowly using it more and more, its just that I absolutely love a couple of features in Proteus:

1) The drawer in the instant messaging window.
2) the "new" format of displaying messages.
3) Its general appearance looks very nice.
 
This is a shot in the dark, but could it be a potential problem with the OS, and the dock is not working as it should?
