Weird startup

Hi!

Something has started to happen when I turn my iMac DV Graphite on.

I get a white screen where the following is written:

Welcome to Open Firmware, the system time and date is...
To continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return.
To shut down, type "shut-down" and press return.
ok
0> _

I then type mac-boot and press return and the normal startup cycle begins.
After that, everything seems to be normal.

Can anyone tell me what that is all about.
Should I be concerned?

Thank you for your help.

You're booting up in the Open Firmware screen for some reason. Normally you would have to hold down the Command-Option-o-f keys while booting to do this.
Next time it happens, try typing "reset-all" (without the quotes) at the prompt. That sets everything back to default values.

Thanks, genghiscohen

I did what you suggested and after I typed "reset-all", the screen went black, a loud tone came from the speakers and the start button on the iMac flashed rapidly on and off for about two seconds... and I was right back at the beginning where it asked me to either type "mac-boot" or "shut-down".

I typed "mac-boot" and everything came to normal again.

Then, I noticed that the startup button on the front of the computer seemed to be half-stuck inside the front panel. I jiggled it, it came free and more flush with the front panel.

Since then, no more problem!
Do you think it's a coincidence or could that have created the problem?

Anyway, I thank you very much for your help, genghiscohen.

I'll let you know if the problem comes back. For the moment, I'm happy!
